The success currently enjoyed by the Malayan Tigress U-17 squad in the AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers is the result of collective teamwork, rather than the brilliance of just one or two individuals.
The squad, coached by Takayoshi Ishihara, is in excellent form after maintaining a 100 per cent winning record in their first two Group E matches.
Their emphatic 4-0 victory over Iraq demonstrated that the Malayan Tigress U-17’s success was built on teamwork, from the goalkeeper all the way to the attacking line.
All four goals against Iraq were the product of contributions from the entire team, with all 11 players carrying out their respective duties. The goalscorers simply finished off the moves to secure three points for the team.
Among the players who have stood out for their commitment and hard work is captain Qistina Fais, whose tireless running has set an example for her teammates. The 16-year-old midfielder has been one of the key engines in Malaysia U-17’s victories over Syria and Iraq, with her ability to break up opposition attacks proving particularly effective.
Jersey number 5, Nisriena Batrissya, has been a cornerstone of the defence. Her pace and ability to read the opposition’s movements have made her a difficult player to get past.
Malaysia’s Tigress U-17 squad also boasts a hardworking defensive stalwart in Nina Hasmaji, who has embraced her role at right-back wholeheartedly. Alongside her, left-back Alisyah Qistina has been equally solid, carrying out the unsung work that allows others to shine.
Two other players who have caught the eye with their consistent performances are number 18, Qaseh, and number 10, Dishanna Pillay. Both have worked tirelessly from the first whistle to the last, pressing, running and making sacrifices for the badge on their chests.
It is this spirit of teamwork that has helped Malaysia find the back of the net, with every player’s dedication and commitment to her role contributing to the team’s success on the pitch.
Once again, teamwork and a fighting spirit will be crucial as the Malayan Tigress U-17 prepare to face India in their final Group E match this Sunday at 9.00 pm.
Only a victory will guarantee the young Malaysian women’s team qualification for the AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup 2027 in China next March.
